That is how it goes. There is a bad bug I am fixing on the new message icons but it will be finished soon. Right now when you choose your message icon it will still show up as the same text and smiley when you're making the post. But once you submit the thread the message icon might show up as something like this. I am working on fixing this, and I am getting SMF techs to help again.
